ICU Nurse Overview
As a competent RN in our ICU, you’ll work independently while applying advanced clinical judgment to dynamic situations. You will care for patients with acute or life-threatening conditions, guide long-term care strategies, and support fellow care providers through thoughtful delegation and collaboration.
ICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
Deliver Critical Care Excellence: Provide safe, evidence-based care to critically ill patients, managing both short-term interventions and long-range care planning.
Monitor and Respond: Assess and evaluate patient conditions continuously, administering appropriate treatments and promptly responding to changes.
Collaborate with the Team: Partner with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other clinical professionals to develop personalized care plans.
Administer Complex Treatments: Safely manage IV infusions, blood products, emergency medications, and ventilator support using ICU protocols.
Support Patient & Family Needs: Offer clear communication, emotional support, and education to families navigating challenging health situations.
Demonstrates Nursing Competencies: Standard I – IV
Technical Skill Highlights
- Proficient in medical order processing, documentation, and EMR systems
- Skilled in operating and troubleshooting ICU-specific medical equipment
- Reads, interprets, and validates complex patient charts and histories
- Demonstrates vigilance in patient safety protocols, near-miss reporting, and emergency readiness
Requirements
Licensure & Certifications:
- Active RN license in the state of Texas (or compact)
- BLS required
- ACLS, PALS, and TNCC preferred
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- At least 1 year of experience in ICU or a critical care setting preferred (new grads welcome to apply)
- Strong decision-making, communication, and multitasking skills
