Senior Systems Administrator Job Responsibilities

 

System and Network Administration:

  • Design, implement, and maintain reliable, scalable server infrastructure (on-premise and cloud).
  • Administer and configure systems, servers, and networking components, including DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and firewalls.
  • Manage cloud-based environments (AWS, Azure, etc.) and on-premise hardware to ensure optimal performance.

Performance Optimization and Security:

  • Ensure the best possible performance, security, and scalability of IT infrastructure.
  • Monitor system health and performance, identifying bottlenecks or vulnerabilities and developing proactive solutions.
  • Apply patches, updates, and security fixes to systems and applications, ensuring compliance with security protocols.

Collaboration Across Teams:

  • Work closely with developers, IT operations, and security teams to ensure seamless integration of systems and applications.
  • Participate in team collaboration and knowledge-sharing initiatives to maintain high IT standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior administrators and support staff.

Backup and Disaster Recovery:

  • Ensure robust backup and disaster recovery processes are in place for critical systems.
  • Manage and execute regular backup and recovery tests to ensure business continuity.

Documentation and Automation:

  • Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and processes.
  • Automate repetitive tasks using scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Python) to improve efficiency and reduce human error.

Requirements

 

Education, Licensure & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).

Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator or in a related IT infrastructure role.
  • Proficiency in system administration across multiple environments (Windows Server, Linux, and cloud-based platforms).
  • Expertise in networking technologies (DNS, DHCP, routing, VPNs, etc.) and security best practices.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, or Docker.
  • Strong experience with backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Acronis) and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
  • Scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation and system management.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a solid understanding of troubleshooting techniques.

Desired Certifications (preferred but not required):

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), or similar certifications.s.
