Job Summary:

The Surgical Tech First Assistant works in a dual role as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and a First Assistant. This position assists surgeons and teams during primary surgical services and complex surgical procedures. This position functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse when performing the role of CST. It works under the supervision of a Surgeon when performing the role of First Assistant.

Education:

• Associate of Arts Degree in Surgical Technology AND completion of a Surgical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP or ABSA Required.

Certifications/Requirements:

• Current CPR certification is required.
• One of the below required:
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist under the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist by graduation from a CAAEP and passing a national certification examination (CST)
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technician program
• Certification under the National Center for Competency Testing
• Certification under the Armed Forces (military) Program

Experience:

• Minimum three years experience as a certified surgical technologist required, Two years clinical experience as a Surgical Assistant preferred.
