General Summary/Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the System Director, Pharmacy Clinical Services, and following standard procedures, the Neurocritical Care Pharmacy Clinical Specialist provides clinical pharmaceutical care. Responsibilities include coordinating pharmaceutical care with other healthcare providers, supervising support personnel, precepting PGY1 Pharmacy Residents and APPE pharmacy students, and participating in relevant clinical research protocols. The specialist facilitates staff development activities, coordinates operational activities, and serves as an educational resource for various healthcare professionals.

Qualifications:

Education

• Minimum Level of Education Required: Doctorate
• Type of degree: Pharmacy
  • Area of study or major: Pharmacy
  • Preferred educational qualifications: Pharmacy Residency
  • Position-specific testing requirement: N/A

Licensure/Certification/Registration

• Licensed Pharmacist
• License is in good standing with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy
• PharmD, Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist, or other subspecialty, or completion of a pharmacy residency required
• Current certification in Basic life support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 90 days of hire

Knowledge/Skills

• Fluent in the use of drug information resources
• Ability to evaluate primary medical literature and develop evidence-based recommendations for treatment regimens
• Ability to perform Medication Use Evaluations (MUE) and submit recommendations for change within the health system
• Ability to provide pharmacokinetic and weight-based dosing
• Possess good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to read and write printed material in English
• Ability to effectively perform patient interviews and medication counseling
• Ability to work well with other healthcare workers and perform well within a team
• Proficient with aseptic technique
• Must be customer-service oriented
• Proficiency with computer keyboard operations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and/or minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers, and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy. Must be familiar with pharmacy software.
