Key Responsibilities for a Registered Nurse:
Patient Care:
- Provide direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing interventions.
- Administer medications, treatments, and procedures in accordance with established policies and protocols.
- Monitor and document patient vital signs and responses to interventions.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Patient Advocacy:
- Advocate for patients' rights and ensure that ethical and legal standards of care are maintained.
- Act as a liaison between patients and their families, addressing concerns and providing emotional support.
Education and Counseling:
- Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and self-care practices.
- Provide counseling and emotional support to patients and families.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records, documenting patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and documentation requirements.
Quality Improvement:
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and safety.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based practices.
Professional Development / Compliance:
- Stay current with nursing practices, regulations, and technological advancements.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.
- Adhere to all state and federal regulations, as well as institutional policies and procedures.
- Maintain licensure and certifications required by the New York State Board of Nursing.
Registered Nurse Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Current New York State RN license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; additional certifications may be required based on specialty and employer preferences.
- Clinical experience in a healthcare setting is preferred but may vary based on the specific role.
