Lead Laboratory Technologist - Chemistry
Full Time | Day Shift
**Up To $10,000 Sign On Bonus**
The Lead Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring top-notch quality and accuracy. This role includes managing a team of laboratory technologists, coordinating with other departments, and implementing best practices in laboratory procedures. The successful candidate will have strong leadership abilities, deep technical expertise, and a commitment to advancing laboratory science. Reporting to the Chemistry Supervisor, this position utilizes extensive practical and theoretical knowledge in Clinical Chemistry, Immunology, and Special Chemistry to support the Chemistry Laboratory. The Lead Laboratory Technologist will act as a key resource for the team and will also undertake additional responsibilities as required.
Shift:
- Monday through Friday, Rotating Weekend and Holiday
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Analyze blood, body fluids, and urine specimens following established Chemistry Department procedures.
- Review and interpret test results for abnormalities or significant variations, making corrections as necessary before release.
- Communicate critical and STAT results to the appropriate patient care areas.
- Assist technologists with instrument malfunctions as needed.
- Contribute to the evaluation of new products and procedures.
- Support staff training and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Consult with pathologists, staff physicians, and other hospital personnel as required.
- Aid supervisory staff with the Glucose Point of Care program.
Managerial:
- Perform routine duties in the absence of supervisory staff or at the request of the Laboratory Administrative Director, including:
- Managing payroll timekeeping.
- Assisting with the processing of NYS and CAP Proficiency programs.
- Writing or revising department procedures and protocols in collaboration with the laboratory supervisor.
- Planning and following up on projects with intuitive insight.
- Informing supervisory staff and relevant personnel of issues needing attention and demonstrating effective problem analysis.
- Maintaining inventory for chemistry supplies and submitting purchase requests as needed.
- Supporting Quality Control programs and evaluations.
- Contributing to a positive work environment within the department.
- Communicating results and issues to appropriate patient care areas.
- Participating in external (NYS and CAP) and internal proficiency testing.
- Handling assigned Quality Control responsibilities.
- Reporting non-conformances, adverse events, and unusual occurrences to leadership.
- Performing other assigned duties.
- Adhering to Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- New York State Clinical Technologist license required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Technology or a related science, with a minimum of four years of relevant laboratory experience.
- ASCP eligibility or certification required.
