This full-time, permanent, direct-hire position presents an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a leading healthcare organization dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of patient care. In this role, you will be a vital part of the revenue cycle team, ensuring accurate coding of observation services to optimize reimbursement and compliance with industry regulations.

 

Observation Coder Essential Functions:

  • Maintain credentials with AHIMA or AAPC as required
  • Stay updated on new coding developments by attending coding classes, reading articles on coding updates, and participating in seminars when available
  • Apply outpatient coding knowledge and experience to accurately assign ICD-10-CM codes for principal and secondary diagnoses on all Observation encounters
  • Accurately assign CPT procedure codes for principal and secondary procedures on all Observation encounters to arrive at the most appropriate APC assignment
  • Correctly assign all applicable modifiers to CPT procedure codes and ancillary charges to prevent billing edits
  • Abstract required information from medical records and enter it into the abstract system
  • Appropriately query physicians when documentation is unclear in the medical record
  • Code Observation encounters at all associated healthcare facilities
  • Maintain department-specific productivity standards with a 95% accuracy rate

Qualifications/Education/Training:

  • Experience: 1 to 2 years of Hospital observation coding in Medical Records
  • Education: High School Diploma required
  • Licenses/Certifications: AHIMA or AAPC maintained credential required
