Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Technician (Micro Specialty)

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Director, the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)/Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) is responsible for performing diagnostic tests as ordered by physicians, authorized by the laboratory director. This role demands a level of expertise consistent with the individual’s education, training, and technical abilities. Responsibilities include maintaining laboratory equipment, conducting quality assessments, managing workloads to meet deadlines, adhering to laboratory procedures, and upholding accreditation standards. Additionally, there may be opportunities to assist in guiding and training lab personnel and students, subject to the laboratory director's discretion.

Microbiology Specific:

In the microbiology lab, Technologists are tasked with preparing and interpreting bacterial cultures, identifying clinically significant organisms, and performing susceptibility testing. They also conduct molecular testing on various PCR platforms, maintain instrument functionality through routine maintenance and quality control, and ensure testing environment sterility.

- Familiarity with bench testing, antimicrobial resistance, and clinically significant microorganisms.

Requirements:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Registered MLT/MT/MLS with ASCP, AMT, ASMT, or equivalent credentials. New graduates must obtain certification within three months of hire.
- Competency in operating laboratory instrumentation and interpreting results.
- Effective communication skills with patients, medical staff, and colleagues.
- Ability to work with patients across all life stages and understand their physical and psychological needs.
- Adherence to laboratory policies and procedures.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work within established guidelines.
