Medical Diagnostic Sonographer

What You’ll Do

  • Perform a Range of Ultrasound Exams
    Conduct a wide variety of sonographic studies, including abdominal, pelvic, musculoskeletal, and vascular exams, with accuracy and consistency.
  • Operate Imaging Equipment with Precision
    Adjust and utilize ultrasound equipment to obtain optimal imaging quality for interpretation and diagnosis.
  • Ensure Patient Comfort and Safety
    Position patients properly and provide clear communication during procedures to ensure a safe, calm, and supportive experience.
  • Collaborate with Healthcare Professionals
    Work closely with radiologists, physicians, and care teams to analyze results and support accurate and timely clinical decisions.
  • Maintain Accurate Records
    Enter and maintain patient data and diagnostic results in the EMR system with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Comply with Safety Standards
    Follow protocols and guidelines set by HIPAA, AIUM, and internal facility policies to ensure patient safety and privacy.
  • Care for Equipment
    Perform regular maintenance and quality checks on ultrasound machines; report and document any equipment concerns or malfunctions.
  • Commit to Professional Development
    Stay updated on the latest sonography innovations, procedures, and continuing education to enhance clinical skills.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field.

Certification & Licensure:

  • Certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or ARRT (S).
  • Licensure as required by the State of Michigan.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • 1+ year of experience in a healthcare or hospital setting is preferred.
  • Proficiency with ultrasound equipment and imaging software.
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy and scanning techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative care team.
  • Flexibility with shift scheduling, including potential weekend or on-call coverage.
