Position Overview:
The Respiratory Therapist will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and monitoring services for patients with respiratory issues. This includes assessing and managing patients with pulmonary conditions, administering respiratory therapy treatments, and educating patients on managing their conditions. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care that meets the needs of each patient.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care: Administer respiratory therapy treatments and interventions to patients, including oxygen therapy, ventilator management, and airway clearance techniques.
- Assessment & Monitoring: Perform respiratory assessments, monitor patient progress, and adjust treatments as necessary to ensure optimal respiratory function.
- Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
- Patient Education: Provide education to patients and families regarding respiratory conditions, treatment plans, and preventive care.
- Equipment Management: Set up and operate respiratory equipment, such as ventilators, nebulizers, and CPAP machines, ensuring proper functioning and safety.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient assessments, treatments, and progress in accordance with healthcare regulations and organizational policies.
- Emergency Care: Respond to respiratory emergencies, providing immediate interventions such as airway management, intubation, and CPR when necessary.
- Continuing Education: Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with the latest respiratory care techniques and technologies.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program.
- Licensure: Current Respiratory Therapist licensure in the state of Indiana (RRT or CRT required).
- Experience: Prior experience in respiratory care is preferred but not required.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications are a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong clinical skills with a focus on patient-centered care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Ability to assess, diagnose, and intervene in respiratory care situations promptly and effectively.
- Knowledge of respiratory equipment, therapy techniques, and industry standards.
