Polysomnographic Technologist Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited Polysomnography Program or equivalent training and experience
- At least one year of experience preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Certification options:
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)
- Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) credentialed by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM)
Polysomnographic Technologist Job Description:
- The Sleep Diagnostics Center is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care and equipped with the latest technology, including Cadwell, ResMed, and Nonin software, as well as a variety of PAP masks. The Cadwell system interfaces with the electronic medical record (Epic).
- Conduct polysomnography studies, including EEG, EOG, EMG, and other physiological monitoring to assess and diagnose sleep disorders.
- Prepare patients for sleep studies by explaining procedures, attaching electrodes and sensors, and ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process.
- Monitor and record real-time patient data, including brain activity, heart rate, respiratory patterns, and other physiological signals during sleep studies.
- Analyze and interpret sleep study data to identify abnormalities and diagnose conditions like sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and restless leg syndrome.
- Maintain polysomnography equipment by performing routine checks, troubleshooting technical issues, and calibrating devices for accurate functionality.
