Hospital Laboratory Department Supervisor 

Blood Bank Supervisor CLS

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Blood Bank Supervisor/Clinical Laboratory Scientist to lead our blood bank department at a busy trauma hospital in Southern California. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in transfusion medicine, a passion for patient care, and a commitment to excellence.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage the daily operations of the blood bank department, including staff scheduling, training, and performance evaluation
  • Oversee the maintenance of accurate and complete records for all blood bank activities, including inventory control, testing, and transfusion
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely and accurate processing of blood samples and transfusions
  • Monitor quality control procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital policies
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the safe and effective use of blood products
  • Participate in the selection, validation, and implementation of new blood bank technology and equipment
  • Provide technical expertise and consultation to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals on transfusion-related issues
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and data analysis to improve patient outcomes and efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies, including AABB, FDA, and CAP

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field
  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License or eligibility for licensure
  • ASCP certification in Blood Banking preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in blood bank/transfusion medicine, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Thorough understanding of transfusion medicine, blood banking, and regulatory requirements
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of hospital staff
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong computer skills and experience with laboratory information systems and blood bank software
