Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our prestigious hospital in California as a Manager, Health Information Management (HIM) & Privacy Officer. In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing the effective management of health information and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health information management, exceptional organizational and leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of privacy laws and regulations in the healthcare industry.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Health Information Management:

   • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the collection, storage, retrieval, and retention of health information in compliance with applicable regulations, including HIPAA and state privacy laws.
   • Oversee the maintenance of accurate and complete electronic and paper health records, ensuring proper coding, indexing, and data integrity.
   • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of health information management systems, including EHRs, document management systems, and coding software.
   • Stay updated on the latest advancements and trends in health information management and propose innovative solutions for improving processes and workflows.

2. Privacy and Compliance:

   • Serve as the organization's Privacy Officer and ensure compliance with all relevant privacy laws and regulations.
   • Develop and implement privacy policies and procedures, including consent forms, data breach response protocols, and patient rights management.
   • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify areas of potential non-compliance and develop corrective action plans.
   • Provide training and education to staff members on privacy policies, procedures, and best practices.
   • Serve as the primary contact for privacy-related inquiries from patients, staff, and regulatory agencies.

3. Team Leadership and Collaboration:

   • Lead a team of health information management professionals, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
   • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.
   • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, legal, compliance, and clinical departments, to ensure effective coordination and communication regarding health information management and privacy matters.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Certified Health Information Manager (RHIA) certification or Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) certification is strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in health information management, including leadership or managerial roles.
• In-depth knowledge of privacy laws and regulations, such as HIPAA, HITECH, and California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act (CMIA).
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), coding systems (e.g., ICD-10, CPT), and document management systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
