Job Description: MLee Healthcare is seeking a dedicated and skilled leader to come aboard as Lab Supervisor in a facility located in Delaware. This technical and supervisory role oversees the operations and technical management of a laboratory section(s) within the facility. Under the Medical Director’s guidance, the position sets goals, recommends policies, assigns objectives, and establishes practice standards. As the technical supervisor under CLIA: 42 CFR 493.1449, the role ensures the competency of employees performing routine and specialized procedures. The individual works independently with support from the Medical Director, Administrative Director, Lab Managers, and Pathologists, and occasionally performs tasks outside this role.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Accreditation and Compliance: Maintains accreditation standards (TJC, AABB) and state/federal licensure. Interprets and applies regulatory and accrediting agency guidelines to create and update policies. Ensures proper maintenance and functionality of laboratory equipment and reviews all relevant manuals annually.
  2. Quality Assurance: Meets CLIA quality assurance requirements and participates in an HHS-approved proficiency testing program. Manages proficiency testing and documentation, ensuring timely completion and accurate results. Develops and implements processes to meet timeliness standards.
  3. Technology and Testing: Selects and validates new technologies and methodologies, ensuring compliance with laws and standards. Maintains quality control programs, resolves technical issues, and provides troubleshooting and consultation. Ensures proper specimen quality and test result verification.
  4. Staff and Training: Keeps updated with medical technology advancements and ensures annual proficiency in required tasks. Competent staff for regulatory inspections, implements succession plans, and oversees staff training and performance evaluations. Assists with identifying additional training needs based on test results.
  5. Financial Management: Manages contracts for instruments, reagents, and maintenance. Establishes ordering protocols and inventory systems to ensure sufficient supplies. Participates in budgeting, makes purchase recommendations, and manages payroll responsibilities.
  6. Competency and Staffing: Administers and tracks staff competencies, updates training outlines, and ensures adequate staffing. Coordinates student rotations and completes performance appraisals. Recommends staff terminations in consultation with management and ensures compliance with all relevant policies.
  7. Additional Duties: Performs other responsibilities as assigned within the scope of the role.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) in biological sciences (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) in chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), and one semester (one quarter) of mathematics.
  • Credential: ASCP Certification 

Experience:

  • Required: Four years in a specialty area with one year of supervisory experience, such as a charge technologist or Lead Tech.
  • Preferred: Supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory specialty.
