The role of a Registered Operating Room Nurse stands out among other nursing positions as it involves autonomously conducting specialized perioperative nursing duties during the crucial intraoperative phase of surgical procedures, specifically within a trauma or acute care environment. 

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures surgical room sterility and safety, maintaining a sterile field throughout the procedure.
  • Coordinates team communication and equipment use and contacts other providers as needed. 
  • Prepares patients and operating rooms before surgery, addressing any concerns with physicians.
  • Adapts plans during surgery to optimize patient outcomes; collaborates with healthcare professionals, directs staff, and oversees operating room activities.
  • Handles specimens and ensures proper documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school AND one (1) year of recent full-time experience in a perioperative setting.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California.
  • Must have a valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by the first day of employment.
  • Must be willing and able to take after-hour calls and weekend calls.
  • Preferred: Possession of a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, possession of an Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, possession of a Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR) certification, possession of a Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification, and prior Tier 2 trauma center experience.
